How to edit the Wiki

a white space in the beginning of sentence creates a box.
* a star gives a bullet (no white space in the beginning)
** double star indents
How to create a internal link: 
 [[Research:page_name|link_name]]> which gives link_name
 where Research is a spacename (predefined), page_name is whatever you like. 
 If the page doesn't exist, you will be able to create it.
How to create an external link:
 [http://www.somexyz.org Link_name], which gives a link to external website.
  or  [http://www.google.com], which gives [1]
  or give the address http://.... directly
To list avaliable pages in a namespace (like research):
  click on special pages, then all pages and choose "Research" from the pull down.
How to upload file
  lick on Upload file on the side bar, or alt-u
  you can link to the file after you uploaded it by specifying  [[ Image:File.pdf ]] in your page.

Two notebook computers are available for presentations/group meetings. Contact Johnny or Pavel if you need to use it. Login with username Lab, password ens618.

Computer Custer administration

**/usr/sbin/cpufreq-selector -g performance The first CPU core will run at 100% afterwards. This command however only affect the first core. 
** Do the following to change the other cores: cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor
  • Mail server how to
  • Temperature sensor is enabled!
    • gkrellm and configure to show temperature and cpu load
    • To install lmsensor on sun:
yum install ksensors 
yum install lm_sensors 
coretemp for node19 -30 won;t be available until 2.26.22

run

/usr/sbin/sensors-detect 
sensors -s sensors -h
yum install gkrellm
  • Another command line tool to find out load of a myltiprocessor node is
    • mpstat -P ALL (rpm -ivh /opt/software/rehl4-rpms/sysstat*rpm)
  • to enable nfs
    • start /etc/init/nsf and portmap
    • copy: exports,hosts,hosts.allow,hosts.deny
    • /etc/sysconfig/iptables (restart iptables)
  • to remotely boot nodes see /usr/local/binwake_node
    • /sbin/ether-wake 00:13:D4:B9:44:40


  • Sun backup
    • The entire /home directory is backed up daily to biomol:/backup/home.daily/bk.day.0
    • The backup is incremental, i.e., it only records changes compared to bk.day.1, which is incremental to bk.day.2, etc. The backup goes back 7 days (bk.day.6)
